The Akwa Ibom State Police command said it has rescued one Dr. Sylvanus Udofa, from his abductors who put him in a shrine at Abak Local Government Area of the state pending when his ransom would be paid.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ahmed Zaki, who addressed the press on Tuesday through the Public Relations Officer, SP, Macdon Ogbeche at the command headquarters Ikot-Akpanabia, Uyo, said a five-man kidnap gang abducted, Dr. Udofa, kept him in a shrine at Abak and demanded a sum of three hundred thousand Naira from him or risk being killed.
According to him, “On 11/7/2019 at about 9:15am, based on intelligence, combined team of operatives from EtimEkpo/Abak Division stormed a shrine in Abak and arrested one Imo Udoh, Monday Uko, Emma Udo Isaiah Ufia and Edonma Ekong all male who abducted one Dr. Sylvanus Udofa ‘m’ aged 57yrs to a shrine and demanded him to pay three hundred thousand naira ransom or be killed. Operatives also rescued the victim.”
Zaki also said his men raided a hideout in Ikot Akpan village in Ikono and cracked down a child stealing syndicate namely Julius Sunday, Udeme Asuquo, Ubong Uwa all male who broke into the house of one Hannah EKong and abducted her two children aged three and four.
The commissioner said the suspects sold off those children to syndicate/trafickkers in Aba, Abia state adding that when they were arrested they confessed to be involved in abducting children in the village since last year.
He further said the command through intelligence arrested one Helen Monday, ‘f’ of Esit Eket who stole a 7year old boy, Blessed Willy and kept him in Iwuoachang village in Ibeno Local government of the state. He noted that the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to the place where the victim was recovered.
The police boss also disclosed that ten notorious armed robbery suspects who specialize in robbing supermarkets and pharmaceutical stores in Uyo metropolis have been arrested.
Recall that residents of Uyo and it’s environs had raised alarm over serial robbery cases in supermarkets and pharmacy shops in Uyo.
“Through intelligence, SARS operatives arrested the gang notorious of robbing supermarkets and pharmaceutical stores. The gang who robbed one victor Akpan in Ikpa road Uyo of his goods valued nine hundred and fifty thousand naira (N950,000) and a physical cash of one million, four hundred and fifty thousand Naira(N1,450,000.00) was arrested.” He said.
The commissioner also disclosed that six transformer thieves were arrested and about thirteen transformers kept in the ministry of Local Government and Chieftain y Affairs which they stole were recovered from them.
Zaki, who, however, said all the suspects would be charged to court, promised to work harder in sanitizing the state of crimes and criminalities and urged the people to use the command hotlines, 08039213071,08081388787 to call the police for quick response to crime scenes.
