Police releases tear-gas on women protesting Jonathan’s visit to Imo monarch

Police operatives in Imo State yesterday resorted to the use of teargas to dispel some women groups who barricaded the entrance into the State Secretariat of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the place.

The policemen were said to have released teargas canisters on the women believed to be supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, after their passionate appeal on them to quietly leave the place was not heeded by the women.

Director of Rochas Campaign Organization, Mr. Iheukwumere Alaribe, who later addressed journalists on the matter, not only condemn the use of tear gas on the women, but also accused the police of brutalizing the women.

He further alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was plotting to make Imo State ungovernable but asserted that, “the APC will not accept any form of intimidation from the PDP”.

Alaribe went on to urge security agencies in the country to “remain loyal to Nigeria and Nigerians and not to any particular political party”.
