Police recover bomb abandoned since civil war in Enugu

Operatives of the Explosive Ordinance Department, otherwise known as anti-bomb unit of the Enugu State police command has evacuated an unexploded ordinance (UXO) measuring about 36cm.

The object, which is believed to be likely potent, is suspected to have been abandoned during the civil war.

According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Enugu State, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the device was spotted by a farmer.

“The civil war device was seen by a man while he was working at the compound of Premier Secondary School, Ukehe in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State, who on sighting the suspected object, informed the police.

“Meanwhile the suspected object is now evacuated and the area rendered safe by the police operatives through the application of Rendering Safe Procedures (RSP)”, the statement added.
