The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr Kayade Aderanti, on Wednesday expressed the command’s readiness to make Lagos crime free and the destination for investor.
Aderanti made this known when he paid a visit to the Lagos Office of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in the course of a tour of media organisations in the state.
He said the influx of people to the state on a daily basis was an indication of the economic opportunities available in it.
“One of the first areas that we discovered when we came on board is the perennial traffic gridlock in Lagos state.
“And we came to the realisation that what we can do to do everything within our power to unlock Lagos.
“We want to try to unlock Lagos to get the traffic within Lagos State moving.
“How do we unlock Lagos, we believe people are going through a lot of stress during the peak period hours in the morning and the late hours in the evening, so we asked ourselves what can we do to help the hardworking people of Lagos State, Nigeria?
“That comes to Lagos every-day, to transact business, some people get stuck in traffic gridlock for hours, through that they are losing money.”
Aderanti said that the number of man hours being wasted on traffic in the state was militating business growth.
He said that most of the companies that had left the state for other states or neighboring countries did so because of uncondusive investment environment.
He said that the police could help stem the tide.
“We are Nigerian Police Force; we want to go a step further this time around in trying to see what we can do to actually improve on the service delivery aspect of our job
“Over the past decades we’ve been so much entrenched in our basic police duties, that is: detection, prevention, apprehension, investigation and all the “tion,” “tion,” “tion.”
“But what we think we lack and which all of us have agreed to, is that we need to actually come out of our shell and show the empathy that every police service in the world is supposed to.
“And that is to render a little bit of service to the people and in this command, I am determined to ensure we improve upon that.”
“We have mapped-out strategies on how to man the state and make it business heaven.
“The command will aid in tackling the traffic logjam that the people of the state daily to enable businesses flow with ease.”
