Police parade 12 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers in Kogi

The Kogi State Police command has paraded 12 suspects for their alleged involvement in armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, kidnapping, cultism, vandalism and car snatching.

Parading the suspects in Lokoja, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Asp William Aya told newsmen that some of the suspects have been terrorizing idah and its environs.

Aya said they also belonged to NEO Black African confraternity secret cult that had participated in various robbery and kidnapping incidents in Kogi East.

He said one of the suspects arrested was an 18-year-old boy, Hassan Idris who was part of a five member gang alleged to have robbed and kidnapped one Mr Ogbu Chikechi of Igabada village, Igalamela Odolu Local Government.

He further stated that, a ransom of N100,0000 was paid before Mr Chikechi was released.

“After he (Chikechi) was released by this notorious gang, he was able to recognize one of the suspects named Alhaji Shadow of Igabada among the kidnapper. This led to the arrest of Samson Akogwu, Joseph Mathias, Hassan Idris and Iliyasu Shaibu”, he said.

Upon interrogation by newsmen, Shadow confessed to have participated in the said crime but claimed he collected N15,000 as part of his own share of the money.

Other suspects paraded by the command are Shaibu Ali Adejor, Joseph Ukwomonu, Shaibu Oseni, Sani Arome, Ibrahim Hamza, Adejoh Moses AKA Amana, Sani Paul AKA Mr PA, Chinedu Obi and Shehu Aliyu.

Items recovered from them are 3AK 47, 1 pump action gun, cutlasses, magazine, assorted charms, cartridges, Toyota Corolla with plate number Lagos Krd 412 EX, mask, axe, plasma tv, knife, and locally made bullet prove.

All the suspects according to Aya will soon be charged to court as soon as investigation are concluded.

“We are calling on the general public to always provide useful information to the police that will help to smoke out this men of the under world constituting nuisance and terrorising innocent citizens in Kogi State.

“Area commanders as well as DPO’s are hereby charged to beef up security in their responsibilities and ensure massive deployment of police patrol teams, and undercover operatives in a bid to undercover black spot, flash points, and other vulnerable criminal spot to nip in the bud all forms of crimes and criminality across the state”, Aya added.
