The Lagos State Police Command says it has taken disciplinary action on a policeman who allegedly demanded N2, 000 from a newspaper vendor, Ifeanyi Friday.

Vanguard reports that the 34-year-old vendor was beaten up by six newspaper agents on Easter Monday and on Tuesday, he had gone to Kester Divisional Police Headquarters to make a report of the assault.

On getting there, the unnamed police officer on duty allegedly demanded N2, 000 for case entry.

Friday had caused a scene, saying he would not pay the amount and had reported the officer to the authorities during which it was reportedly said that an investigation will be carried out concerning the claim.

Disclosing this, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmus, said though Kester Police Station was not under the jurisdiction of Golden gate where the incident occurred, the complaint against the policeman’s action had been dealt with appropriately by the officer in-charge of sanctioning.
