Police officer arraigned for biting off neighbour’s finger in Nasarawa


A 34-year-old police officer, Omepa Dickson who bit off his neighbour’s finger was yesterday, arraigned before a Mararaba Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Nasarawa State.

Dickson, who resides at Kabayi, Mararaba was arraigned on a one count charge of causing grievous hurt.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, Cpl Friday Adaji said one Adejo Simon of the same address with the accused, reported the case at the ‘A’ Division Police Station.

The prosecutor said the accused on June 29, at about 8 a.m. while siting in front of his room mocked the complainant who was going to the bathroom to take his bath.

Adaji said, “The accused sat in front of his room mocking the complainant and calling him a fake police officer,

“When the complainant confronted him, it led to a fight and in the process the accused caused bodily injury to Simon by biting off his finger.”

Adaji further told the court that the complainant was in the hospital receiving medical treatment.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 241 of the Penal Code.

When the charge was read, Dickson however pleaded not guilty.

The presiding Judge, Albert Maga consequently granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Maga however adjourned the case till July 7 for further hearing.
