Police nab teenage suspects over shoplifting in Delta community

The police anti-crime team at Ogwashi Uku Division, Ogwashi Uku, near Asaba in Delta State, has arrested two teenagers over alleged breaking and entry.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to journalists in Asaba on Monday, said the suspects, 15 and 17 years of age, allegedly broke into a makeshift store belonging to a businessman in Ubulu Uku,a neighbouring community, and made away with several phone accessories including N14,000 that was left in the store.

He said, “the suspects, Agali Jacob and Ifeanyi chucks were arrested on Sunday evening on a tip off , they broke into a businessman store and removed phone accessories including N14,000, They made useful statements to the police who also recovered from them the stolen items, investigation is ongoing, and on completion the police might take them to court.”

It was gathered that vigilante men in Ubulu Uku community caught the suspects during the wee hours and arrested them before they were handed over to the police anti-crime team at Ogwashi Uku police station.

Sources say frequent breaking and entry have been a recurring decimal in Ogwashi Uku, Ubulu Uku communities, a situation that has generated hue and cry from residents who alleged that apart from breaking and entry crimes, motorcycle theft had also been on the increase.

Meanwhile, the police have warned that it will no longer be business as usual for criminals operating in the areas, adding that strategies for plain clothes policemen to bring the suspects to book has been introduced.

Aniamaka told journalists in Asaba that the police in the last two weeks, have arrested ten suspected cultists in Ogwashi Uku and Ubulu Uku communities, assuring that upon completion of investigation, the suspects will be charged to court.
