The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six undergraduate students of the Delta State University, Abraka, who allegedly took part in a gang rape as part of initiation into a campus cult group.

The Command’s public relations officer, DSP Celestina Kalu, said in a statement issued on Friday in Asaba that the suspects were nabbed in the act in a bush by police detectives following a tip-off by some residents of the area.

“On December 14, 2015 at about 6:30pm, the DPO Abraka Division received information that a sound of a girl’s cry was being heard from an uncompleted building in a bush around the railway line, Abraka.

“Consequently, a patrol team rushed to the scene and arrested three males, namely, Chukwudi Ejiede, Emeka Otulugbuke, Ogbem Danul, and two females, Winifred Eyefian and Ziya George, all students of Delta State University, Abraka,” Kalu said.

The police spokesperson also said that the police rescued and arrested one miss Omojevbe Tracy, a student of the same institution, who was being raped by the suspects as part of an initiation into Viqueen, a campus cult.

She said that all the suspects have been taken into custody, while investigation into the incident has commenced.
