Police nab six teenage boys during rival cult clash in Lagos

Six teenagers have been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly being involved in a cult clash in the Lagos Island area.

A team of policemen from the Lion Building Division apprehended the six boys on Saturday lurking around the Campus Square.

The suspects, whose ages ranged from 13 to 15, were allegedly going for a revenge on a rival cult when the police got a tip-off and arrested the boys.

They were subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Yaba.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the incident to the Punch, after a search, one locally-made pistol, two cartridges, axes, knives and machetes, were recovered from the suspects whose names were not disclosed.

The police chief said, “It is a disturbing trend and that is why the police want parents to be vigilant. The children, whose ages ranged from 13 to 15, got involved in street fights and cultism.

“As a result of their ages, we cannot reveal their identities to the public, but parents must be watchful how children sneak out of their presence, particularly in the evenings.

“Two groups, which these boys belonged to, have been identified. They are Happiness and Owonikoko groups.

“Therefore, when parents hear their children mention these names, they should know that their children are referring to cults.

“We would adopt alternative dispute resolution because the boys are too small to be detained. They were warned and granted bail and they have been given days to come back for inspection,” he noted.

Meanwhile, parents of the schoolboys have been invited, but they claimed they were unaware that their children were members of a cult.
