Police nab six inter-state armed robbers in Delta, recover four vehicles

The Police Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, attached to the Delta state Police Command, on Friday arrested six inter-state armed robbers in Ughelli/Patani road during a routine stop-and-search duty.

The Commissioner of Police in Delta state, CP Mustafa Muhammad, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to DAILY POST, said “Our men of the anti-robbery unit arrested the suspects in Ughelli/Patani road. The police on stop-and-search recovered from the suspects different phones, and N1,290. Later, the suspects took the police to a warehouse inside Ughelli community where four stolen vehicles were recovered. We are currently interrogating them upon which the suspects would be charged to court.”

It was gathered that the suspects have been robbing unsuspecting persons around Ogbia town in Bayelsa state before they moved into Delta state, where in the last four months they have robbed several persons of their vehicles at gunpoint, and had also built a warehouse inside the bush before nemesis caught up with them.

They were said to have been apprehended by the anti-robbery squad upon intelligence gathering that the robbers were leaving Delta state to Bayelsa state, their original base, when luck ran out on them as they approached Patani-Ughelli bridge leading to Bayelsa state.

Residents of Ughelli community, reports say, had on Monday raised alarm over frequent cases of car snatching by the rampaging armed robbers said to be operating with AK47s, and in most of their operations, they kill their victims in cold blood before taking away their vehicles.

A victim, Chief Okhworie Stanley, who spoke to DAILY POST, said, “These rampaging armed robbers robbed me and took my car from me after they shot my legs. Thank God I survived the gunshot around Patani-Ughelli bridge. I am sure the suspects police arrested are the ones. I am happy that they have been nabbed, we can now have a relief, till now, I have not recovered my car.”

The commissioner of police however gave the names of the suspects as: Ebi Abeh, Kings Toboro, Pereye Ebi, Godlike Felix, Thimoty Peretimo, and Chucks Chukwu, adding that investigation was ongoing after the statements they have made to the police.
