Police nab former Delta Vigilante member, two others for alleged cultism, robbery

Detectives at Ogwashi Uku Police Division in Delta State have arrested a former vigilante member in the community, Chief Joseph Agbewai, and two others for alleged cultism and stealing of goods from a broken down lorry worth millions of Naira.

It was gathered that the police detectives swooped on the suspects on Sunday evening in Ogwashi Uku community while acting on intelligence gathering in their respective homes.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects to journalists on Monday in Ogwashi Uku community, the Divisional police officer (DPO) of the station, Mr,Tobi Debakeme said the suspects were arrested for alleged complicity in cultism and stealing of goods from a broken down lorry in the community.

He said, “The suspects are using their cult members to disturb the peace of the public, especially in Ogwashi Uku community including the goods they allegedly stole from a broken down lorry. They have several times betrayed the security apparatus in the community, they give information to hoodlums and notorious criminals in the state, they have made useful statements to the police and investigation is on going.”

The Divisional Police Officer disclosed that the suspects in the recent times allegedly aided and abet notorious criminals, who allegedly murdered some of the youths in Agidiasi in Ogwashi Uku community and had been problem to the community and police before the long arm of the law caught up with them on Sunday.

He added; “Based on this, the police detectives at the Ogwashi Uku police Division acted on intelligence gathering to arrest the Suspects in their various homes and they are currently helping the police for further investigation, they will be charged to court on completion of the investigation” and warned that the police will ensure Crime free in the yuletide celebrations in the state.

Meanwhile, the DPO, Tobi Debakeme, also confirmed the arrest of two persons, Benjamin Agara, and Luke obetime, who allegedly specialized in waylaying and robbing unsuspecting Dangote and Bau cement distributors.

He said, “The two men are specialist in snatching trucks loaded with cements, Dangote and Bau cements, they will bail up the driver with toy guns and the driver will summit and in most cases run away, during investigation the police discovered there is a staff of the company that collaborates with the criminals by giving them information on the movements of the trucks and the suspect whose name was given as Chukwudi Adibe was also arrested and he is currently helping the police in their investigations.

“The suspects upon interrogation confessed to the crime and they will be charged to court on completion of investigation, the police detectives are at present drafted to flash points to bring them to book.”
