A Higher National Diploma student identified as Jacob Ufedo, and Abubakar Nuhu Sadiq a National Diploma student, both of the Kogi State Polytechnic Lokoja have been arrested by the Police for their alleged involvement in armed robbery and illegal possession of fire arms.
This is just as 21 others were arrested from their hideouts across the state for their involvement in kidnapping, armed robberies, cultism and other crime related activities.
DAILY POST gathered that the two suspects finished their exam on the 7th of December and they are still writing their project before they were apprehended by the police.
One of the suspects, Jacob Ufedo while regretting his action said this was the first time he ventured into armed robbery.
According to him, “We collected a gun from one of our friends who we knew since 2016. After collecting it, we decided to make use of it since the economy is not smiling. This is the first I have robbed people of their belongings.”
Parading the other suspects on Wednesday in Lokoja, the Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya said that in compliance with the directives of the Inspector General of police Ibrahim Idris, the command had adopted proactive strategy to stamp out activities of hoodlums from the state.
He said five suspects who were armed with two locally made guns attacked a police station and a vigilante office in Adankolo, a suburb of Lokoja.
Aya added that the suspects carted away valuable properties of the police.
The Police spokeperson said that the hoodlums claimed that they were protesting the death of two of their members who were drowned in the River Niger, while trying to evade arrest from the officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) who stormed their bunk in search of illicit drug.
According to him, “Five Fulani men who specializes in kidnapping and armed robbery activities around Osara area of the state were also arrested by men of the command. While combing the bush within the area, the men of the Koi State Police command were able to rescue unhurt their victim, one Muhammed Bello.”
Speaking further, Aya said with the prompt intervention of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad, (FSAR) led by Dsp Danjuma Bukar, they promptly arrested Ukwumodu Agono and Abu Atobo who were terrorizing the people of Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area and its environs.
The Police PPRO added that, luck ran out of two suspects identified as Ebeh Musa and Ameh James from Idah who were arrested while snatching at gun point a Daylong motorbike from one Achile Sumaila at Agbagigbo in Ofu LGA of the state.
Items recovered from the hoodlums include 2 Ak 47 rifles, 60 rounds of Ak 47 amunitions, 1 single barrels gun; one action barrel rifle, one locally made pistol, weeds suspected to be indian hemps, 10 laptops and six handsets.
