He disclosed that three locally-made guns were recovered from the hoodlums, including a cash of N600,000, adding that in the last two months, the police have recorded the arrest of 10 robbery suspects in Ughelli community who are currently being detained for interrogations.
Mustafa said, “Last Monday, three suspected members of robbery gang were also arrested in Ughelli, Asaba expressway. The suspects are: Juball Maxim, Davison Luke, and Lucky Orodi. They confessed to have been responsible for frequently robbery incidents in the area. They will be charged to court soon after completion of investigation.”
It was gathered that the suspects had before their arrest robbed a driver at gun point along the Ughelli-Asaba expressway and allegedly made away with the driver’s N25,000.
Investigation revealed that Ughelli-Asaba expressway had been frequent danger zone for unsuspecting commuters and residents who are robbed at gun point by the rampaging robbers.
Only recently, a middle-aged man, Oghenero Joshua was abducted along the Ughelli-Asaba expressway by these rampaging robbers, and after dispossessing him of his belongings, dumped him by the bush path where he was later rescued by passerby.
The commissioner of police, however, assured the people of Delta of the continued protection of their lives and property by the police, adding that it will no longer be business as usual for criminals in their hideouts.
Further investigations revealed that Ughelli, Asaba, Ibusa, Okpanam and Illah communities are flash points for armed robbers who during nightfall rob unsuspecting residents and commuters of their hard-earned money and belongings.
