The anti-robbery team attached to Ogwashi-Uku police division in Ogwashi-Uku near Asaba, Delta State in the early hours of Wednesday killed a notorious robbery suspect identified as Nonso Akubueze in a gun battle.
Divisional Police Officer in Ogwashi-Uku Police Division, (DPO), Tobi Debakeme, who confirmed the killing of the robbery suspect to journalists in the area, disclosed that the police anti-robbery team acted on intelligence gathering and moved into the scene where the armed gang including the said Nonso were robbing residents, and motorists somewhere around the village square leading to Ubulu-Uku community.
Debakeme said two of the gang members, during a gun battle with the police anti-robbery team, escaped with bullets’ wounds, adding that the police will do everything possible to bring them to book.
According to him: “Our men of the anti-robbery team engaged the robbery gang in a gun battle, and two of the gang escaped, but Nonso the notorious gang member was gunned down, the police will ensure the fleeing suspects are brought to book.”
Meanwhile, the police in Ogwashi-Uku Division have confirmed the arrest of six members of Arubaggar cult group who had been responsible for several cult clashes in the community in the last few months.
Debakeme, who confirmed the arrest of the six suspects, disclosed that two of the cult group members when the police raided their “convocation hide out” in the bush and arrested the six suspects who were still alive.
He said: “two of the gang members have been operating as deadly cultists in Abah-Unor, and in a bid to escape justice engaged in rival cult war who claimed their lives before the police anti-cultism team confronted other members of the gang in shoot outs and injured two others of the deadly gang cultists, who later escaped into the bush.”
