Police intercepts seven bags of alleged smuggled ballot papers

The police in Kano has confirmed the interception of seven bags of ballot papers being conveyeded to Jigawa.

Fagge Division of the force intercepted the vehicle at night and the suspects were transferred to police headquarters in Kano for interrogation.

Kano Police Spokesperson, Haruna Abdullahi, confirmed the report but said the papers were not original, and that they were specimen ballot papers meant to enlighten the voters.

Umar Danjani, a special assistant to former governor Sule Lamido, raised the alarm alleging that the sensitive material was meant to rig the fourth coming general election in Jigawa State.

Mr Danjani also stated that police command in Kano showed to them only one piece of the seventeen seized bags of the ballot papers, saying that they are specimen ballot papers, while they insisted that the police should bring to the public forum the entire seized ballot papers for clarification.

“Even if the seized sensitive materials are meant for specimen, it’s the INEC that authorized the people to produce the specimen ballot papers? This form part of the questions we want the police to answer,” Dajani said.

Mr Danjani also alleged that the PDP in Jigawa have since uncovered a plan by the APC to rig election in seventeen Local Government councils in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer explained that two people were arrested and the police in Kano were thoroughly investigating the case.
