Kaduna State Police Command is hunting to arrest two persons accused of destroying Polio vaccines at Waziri Zazzau Street in Rigasa community,Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.
The accused persons identified as Mallam Gambo and Jamilu were alleged to have hit one of the Immunization officials, Mallam Ayuba with a bottle, destroyed the vaccines and also a megaphone belonging to Journalists Against Polio JAP.
According to the Immunization officials, the two people claimed that their children were previously vaccinated without their consent hence the destruction of the vaccines as a way of expressing their anger.
In a reaction, a youth leader of Rigasa community, Mallam Abdullahi Edicha expressed concern that such attitude was capable of tarnishing the image of residents in the area and assured that everything would be done to sensitize the people on the importance of the immunization to their children.
Earlier, the JAP coordinator of Kaduna in the state, Mallam Lawal Dogara stated that the action was against Federal government directive that parents should ensure that all children below the age of five should be immunized.
He maintained that the group was in Rigasa area for sensitization campaign on Polio vaccines by educating traditional and religious leaders as well as stakeholders on the need for the children below the stimulated age to be immunized.
Meanwhile, the police attached to the campaign team have promised that the two persons would be brought to book while assuring that necessary steps would be taken to safeguard polio officials in immunizing children in the area.
