Police gun down two kidnappers in Delta


The Police authorities in Delta state have gunned down two suspected kidnappers during a shootout after its operatives stormed their hideout in Ibusa community to rescue a kidnapped victim.

Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu said in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Asaba that the two suspects were killed after they attempted to escape whe police swooped on their hideout.

“On September 14, 2015, through intelligence, the police gathered that a gang of kidnappers were hiding at No. 18 Umueke Quarters Ibusa, with a kidnapped victim and were demanding for ransom.

“Consequently, SARS operatives from Asaba were immediately dispatched to the scene. The hoodlums on sighting the policemen abandoned their male victim, one Odaro David Iyawe and took to their heels,” she said.

Kalu explained that during the operation, the suspects made to escape from the building, prompting the police to shot and arrest two of the suspects, who later died from their injuries.

She gave the names of the dead suspect as Uche Nwadali and Austin Okolie.

The police image maker said that upon interrogation, the suspects named one Collins Oligidi, who is currently on the run, son of the owner of the house where the victim was kept, as their accomplice.

She also said that the victim, who was rescued unhurt, later revealed that he was lured by the criminals to Ibusa through the internet for a job offer.

Kalu said the police has launched a manhunt to track down the fleeing accomplice, Collins, adding that the command has commenced investigation into the case.
