About five corpses were Thursday, recovered when an-18-seater Okitipupa-bound passenger bus which had taken off from Idumota in the Lagos Island, allegedly plunged into Omo River, around J4 at Ogbere Ijebu East local government area of Ogun state.
Though the cause of the crash still remains unknown as at the time of filling this report, it was however, gathered that a combined team of personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) were at the scene for rescue operation, Vanguard reports.
The state commander, FRSC, Adetunji Adegoke and the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Muyiwa Adejobi, both confirmed the incident.
According to the duo, the commercial bus was a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, ONDO AKR 747XA. They also disclosed that it was carrying only five passengers with lots of unnamed goods.
They said the bus was coming from Lagos and heading to Ondo town before the incident occurred. The state commander however said the bus and all the five passengers who have been confirmed dead, have been recovered.
According to Adegoke, the passengers comprised three males and two females and had died before their bodies were recovered from the river. Adejobi confirmed the bus had loaded some goods such as household items with five passengers before the accident.
