Police foils ex-militants’ scheme to bomb Calabar-Itu bridge


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has announced the success recorded by its men in aborting the scheme by some aggrieved ex-militants to blow up the Calabar-Itu Bridge.

The arrest of the mastermind of the plot, Boronyefa Olorogun, alias General Bofa, was carried out through a link from two suspects: Samuel Coleman Yaw, a Ghanaian who lives in Bakassi, and one Monday Anthony from Bakassi local government area of Cross River State. The two were earlier arrested following a tip off, the police had disclosed.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Gabriel Achong, while narrating this feat to newsmen at the State Police Command Headquarters on Thursday, said the Command received information on the planned attack and promptly lunched an intensive surveillance which led to the arrests.

The police chief, who disclosed that the suspects admitted to committing the crime, noted that items recovered from the suspects include; six (super power 90) explosives, five blasting laps, three rolls of detonating cords, one bundle of extra detonating cord and one Honda Accord 1997 model.
