Alhaji Zaki Ahmed, the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, said a jail break was averted at the Federal Prison, Bauchi recently.
The year 2016 has witnessed the highest number of jailbreaks in recent years.
Ahmed, who spoke on Friday in Bauchi while briefing newsmen on the activities of the command, said one Mahmud Tanimu who hatched the plan was arrested.
He explained that Tanimu had concluded plans with his accomplices to break the jail on the fateful day to free his brother being remanded in the prison.
Ahmed further explained that the brother to Tanimu, whose name was not mentioned, was standing trial for alleged terrorism.
He said the command, following intelligent reports despatched its anti-terrorism squad who foiled the plans.
The commissioner said that Tanimu was subsequently arrested by the police.
In August alone, there were two cases of attempted jailbreak in Kuje Prison and Abakaliki Prison.
An Assistant Controller of Prisons, Othman Musa, recently gave his opinion on what largely contributed to rampant cases of jail breaks in the country.
