Police drag Ekiti monarch, chief to court over alleged fraud

The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Mr Amba Asuquo, has arraigned two persons in connection with fraud-related offences, but the suspects pleaded not guilty.

The two accused persons: Chief Samuel Fayigbe and His Royal Majesty, Oba Akin Adeyemo, were arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

In a charge number MAD/231c/2019, they are facing four count charges ranging from conspiracy, stealing, forgery and fraudulently conversion of the sum of Two Million, Four Hundred and Fifty Three Thousand Naira belonging to minor Chiefs of Odo-Ora Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Chief Fayigbe and Oba Adeyemo were docked for allegedly forging the signatures of other Chiefs on the Odo Ora-Ekiti in Ido/Osi Local Council Chieftaincy payment Vouchers.

The Police Officer in charge of Legal Matters, Mr Femi Falade, expressed confidence in the discretion of the Court.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Adesoji Adegboye granted the bail of Chief Samuel Fayigbe on the condition of Two Hundred Thousand with two sureties on Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira each while His Royal Majesty, Oba Akin Adeyemo, was granted bail on self recognition.

Adegboye then adjourned the case till the 10th of July 2019.
