The Warri Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, ACP Mohammed Mukta Garba, Tuesday said criminals should handle over guns and other weapons in their positions to the Police or consider themselves dead if they get caught operating within Warri and its environs.

The Area Commander, who was newly-posted to Warri, handed down the warning when he paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel.

ACP Garba stated that he had commenced the operations with the leaders of Hausa Community in Warri.

“The first community I went to is my people, Hausa people. I told them and it’s a message to other people.

“I called the House leaders to my office and told them, that you know me I am still Garba that you know. I can do better than what I have done before.

” I told them, go and warn your boys, if I catch or see anybody with gun. He should consider himself dead. Because I cannot be here as Area Commander and people will be taking laws into their hands.

“I can’t take it. I will not take it, my shoulders are too soft. So I warned them and told them to go and talk to their children. If they know that they have guns, they should bring it back to the authorities. If not, the law will take its course.”

ACP Garba said he will visit the various communities including Ugbuwangue under his territory to sound the warnings.

According to ACP Garba, “I will visit them; I will go and talk to them. I know them. I will go and talk with them. I know Ogunu, Ugbangwue all of them. Don’t worry, I know them. The whole communities within my domain, I will visit all of them. I will tell them that the same Garba they know, I am back. And am back for good

The new Area Commander also solicited for partnership between the Police and the media in Warri.

He said policemen who abused the rights of citizens should be left for him to handle, stressing that there will be changes under his watch.
