Police debunks report of alleged chicken attack in Asaba

The Delta State Police Command has debunked a media report published last Sunday that a chicken allegedly pecked a buyer to coma in Asaba.

Command’s spokesperson, DSP Celestina Kalu in a statement Monday in Asaba, debunked the chicken attack report which the reporter alleged was confirmed by the police authorities in the state.

She said: “The attention of the Delta Police Command has been drawn to a false and misleading publication with caption “Chicken Pecks buyer to Coma in Asaba.”

“The report, which was published on page 5 of Sunday Punch of January 3rd 2016, was written by one Nosa Akensua.”

“The general public is hereby advised to dismiss the said story as fallacious and misinformation by the said reporter as the Command is not aware of such incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer said that the reporter never contacted her as alleged in the report, adding that on no occasion did she confirm such incident to any reporter.

Kalu, who expressed anger over the said report, explained that she was never contacted by the said Nosa Akensua before quoting her in the publication.

She advised journalists to always be factual and endeavour to contact the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) whenever they need police angle to their stories.
