Police confirm release of abducted provisions store owner in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the release of a provisions store owner identified as Mrs. Foluke Akinrinade, who was kidnapped on Monday in Eruwa town.

DAILY POST recalls that some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had on Monday abducted Akinrinade in Eruwa town in Ibarapa geo-political zone of the state.

A native of Eruwa informed our correspondent that the victim and three of her colleagues who were returning from the Temidire market were accosted by the gunmen along the old Ibadan-Eruwa road around 6:30pm on Monday.

The abduction of Akinrinade, who is a provisions dealer at Owode in Aborerin area of Eruwa, is coming less than two weeks after the abduction of a canteen owner, Mrs. Folakemi Olufunmilayo, in Igbo-Ora town.

The source, who spoke in confidence with DAILY POST while narrating the incident, said that the gunmen numbering about four accosted Akinrinade who drove the car and the three other passengers.

He said that the abductors seized their mobile phones, parked the car along the road and whisked Foluke away, adding that the abductors after collecting the phones released the three passengers and whisked the victim away.

The source said, “I can tell you that another woman, Mrs. Foluke has been kidnapped in Eruwa on Monday.

“Mrs. Foluke and three other people were coming from Temidire market when she was abducted around 6.30pm. She was the one that drove the car.

“Out of the four people she is the only one that they kidnapped because she was the one that drove the car. They seized their phones so that they will not contact anybody until they get to the town. They parked her car and took her away.

“I know her, she sells provision at Owode in Aborerin area of the town. The case has been reported at Eruwa Divisional Headquarters. I learnt that the vigilante group and the hunters have been hunting for them. I can’t say that this is the kind of people that kidnapped her. And I don’t know if they have demanded for ransom from the family”.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, on Wednesday disclosed that the victim has been released after twenty-four hours in captivity.

Fadeyi insisted that the victim was released Tuesday evening.

He also disclosed that no ransom was paid to secure her release.

Fadeyi said, “Yes, she has been released at about 7.00 pm 2/719 after concerted efforts by Police teams deployed to launch a manhunt for her perpetrators. Her name is Foluke Akinrinade and no information as to if any ransom is paid.

“Police is still on the trial of hoodlums. They shall soon be arrested and brought to book.”
