The Divisional Police Station located inside the Bodija market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital and three vehicles around the premises were on Thursday burnt during a clash between butchers and some security agents.
The crisis started when butchers and security agents, including the police confronted each other over the relocation of all butchers in the 11 local government areas in Ibadan.
DAILY POST gathered that three other vehicles, generators and other items were also damaged beyond recognition during the mayhem.
Though, the Oyo State Government had announced the closure of the market due to the clash, DAILY POST gathered that about six people, including three persons lost their lives during the clash.
But the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, who also confirmed the attack on the police station, said two people were killed during the incident.
Odude while addressing journalists at the market said the situation had been brought under control.
He said, “We need to put together exactly what happened, but what I can tell you is that this morning, there was supposed to be an arrest of people who are selling meat by the road side.
“In the process, I think there was confrontation, we understand that at least two people were gunned down, and there was an attack, there was an attempt to attack this police station, we quickly mobilised and we have salvaged the situation. That is exactly what happened.
“So, I can’t give you all the comprehensive information because we are still putting all the facts together.”
