A 37-year-old housewife, named Bukola Ogun has been arrested by men of the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly faking her kidnap to defraud her husband of N10m.
Other suspects arrested along with her are, Kayode Adepoju ‘m’ aged 37, Olalekan Annanfi ‘m’ and another gang member. Mrs Ogun who conspired with the trio to fake her own kidnap.
The suspects and her accomplices confirmed that they faked the kidnapping in order to force her husband to send her to America. They added that the arrangement started like a joke while the woman was lodged in a hotel for three days.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude while briefing journalists in Ibadan on Friday, informed that the woman in question allegedly conspired with, “a three man gang to fake her own kidnap to defraud her husband, Mr. Kayode Ogun of no 3, Elesun street, Oluyole in Ibadan.”
Odude maintained that the incident, “happened at about 1945hrs on 4/7/2017” when the three armed hoodlums stormed the residence of the 37-year -old housewife and’ kidnapped,’ her to an unknown destination.
He stressed that, “barely four hours later, the suspects contacted victim’s husband and demanded the sum of ten million naira ransom as a condition for his wife’s release.
“Unknown to him that the kidnap was actually arranged by his wife, the husband reported the case to the police.
“Following the report, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad began a manhunt for the hoodlums. During intensive investigation and reach, two male suspects were arrested, who let out the cat out of the bag as operatives were stunned to discover that the victim was the architect of the fathom kidnap.
“To pull the wool over everyone’s eyes, the victim lodged in a hotel at Imalefalafia area for three days while frantic efforts were being made to rescue her.
“Two of the suspects were eventually arrested in their criminal hideout at Imalefalafia area, Ibadan.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime. The mastermind of the crime was eventually arrested”.
A gang who specialised in stealing inverters from telecommunication companies were also paraded.
Odude said that the arrest of all the suspects was based on intelligent reports.
Three other suspects arrested in connection with armed robbery in some parts of the state were also paraded.
Odude, however, declared that all the suspects will appear in court at the end of investigation.
