Police arrests, quizzes Court Clerk over alleged theft in Warri

Men of the Nigeria Police Force “A” Division in Warri have arrested and quizzing a court Clerk identified as Miss Abigail Atumu for allegedly swindling a litigant of the sum of two hundred thousand naira, DAILY POST can report.

Atumu who is currently cooling off her heels at the police cell works with the Delta State High Court 4 in Warri.

Atumu was alleged to have swindled one Mr Omars Pessu, a litigant of the said sum on two different occasions.

A dependable Source who craved anonymity stated that the suspect had approached the litigant sometime in February that her Judge wanted N300,000 from him to cover his case, stressing that the money should be channeled through her.

The Source also claimed that Pessu paid N100,000 instantly and promised to pay the balance before the case was called for hearing in the court yesterday.

Luck, however, ran out Atumu yesterday when the litigant walked up to the Judge, Justice Theodora Uloho in confidence, that he had established a good relationship with her.

“The Judge, Justice Theodora Uloho was astonished by the move before Pessu let the cat out the basket that she sent one of her staff to collect N300,000 to close his matter.

“The Judge immediately summoned the staff and Pessu was able to identify Atumu as the swindler and the suspect admitted to the crime.

“The N100,000 that Pessu gave the suspect on Monday before the sitting of the court was found with her,” she said.

The Source stated that the offence was punishable under Section 93 of the Criminal Code Cap C21, of Delta 2006.
