Police arrests 13-year-old female suicide bomber in Kano

A 13-year-old girl has been arrested by the Kano state police, after she was caught with a suicide vest packed with explosives.

The girl was reportedly arrested hours after an attack by two female suicide bombers on Thursday at the Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano. She was said to be seeking medical attention at a clinic before health officials became suspicious and invited the police who discovered the explosives on her.

Quoting a source, AFP reports that the girl turned up at the clinic hours after the previous bombings, seeking medical attention before she was arrested.

“The people there called the attention of security personnel who found explosives primed for a suicide attack on her,” an unnamed security source told AFP.

Although, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, could not confirm the report, saying he had no such information as at press time, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Aderele Shinaba said the public would be briefed later as he was not ready to disclose further for security reason.

“We will give the public information on this at the appropriate time. But at the moment, I cannot tell you what has happened for security reasons,” he said.

Relatively, the National Emergency Management Agency, had stated that death toll in Thursday’s bomb blast had risen to 32.

Confirming the latest figure, the North Central Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Mr. Abdulsalam Mohammed, said on Friday that corpses of those killed in the blasts had been deposited at the mortuary.
