A certain man who claims to be a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command attached to Sagamu Division for alleged armed robbery.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, told newsmen that the suspect, Adesiyan Adeniji, was in possession of a stolen unregistered motorcycle, a locally-made double -barrelled gun with 20 live cartridges.
According to Adejobi, the suspect who had been placed under surveillance by the policemen in the area for some time was arrested at Ewusi, Sagamu, in Sagamu Local Government area of the state.
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, had ordered a thorough investigation into the matter to ascertain the membership of the suspect with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
Speaking further, the PPRO said, “The policemen, who had placed the suspect under surveillance, monitored and arrested him. At the point of arrest, he was in possession of a stolen unregistered motorcycle and a locally- made double- barrelled gun with 20 live cartridges.
“Police preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspect, who claims to be a vigilance group official, has been terrorising the people of Sagamu and robbing them of their belongings,” the Deputy Superintendent of Police added.
