Police arrest suspected bandits in Ondo

Men of the Ondo State Police Command at the weekend arrested a suspected armed robber identified as Abraham Haruna.

Also arrested were two motorcycle thieves, Monday Gabriel, and Segun Olawale.

The Command’s Spokesman, Wole Ogodo who spoke with reporters in Akure, the state capital said the bandit was apprehended after robbing a petrol station in Oba-ile, Akure North local government.

According to him, “Police swiftly responded to a distress call at Oba-Ile Police Divisional Headquarters, Akure that armed robbers were operating at a Petrol Station along Akure/Owo Expressway, Akure.

“On the receipt of the information, the policemen from the command spontaneously mobilized to scene and on sighting the policemen, the suspected armed robbers fled into the bush”.

Ogodo said their leader was arrested with some items and a substantial amount of money.

He said the bandits were given a hot chase and a thorough search was carried out and in the process, their king-pin, Haruna who lives in Okene, Kogi State was arrested at the station while others ran away.

The suspect, according to Ogodo, was caught with N41,000 and one Techno DI handset, stressing that the Manager of the robbed filling station, Adedeji Olarewaju had earlier hinted that the robbers snatched N151,000 from the pump attendant, Miss Omolorun Comfort.

He stressed that in a bid to escape, the king-pin of the robbers shot on the air and threw the pistol into the bush.

Ogodo vowed that police would intensify efforts to track down the remaining fleeing suspects.

The police spokesman said two notorious motorcycle thieves, Gabriel and Olawale were also nabbed at Ibuji/Igbaraodo Road by police patrol team at Igbaraoke Police Station.

According to him, both culprits came from Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State and had been terrorising members of the public before nemesis caught up with them.

Ogodo said the thieves who were arrested with a Boxer Bajaj motorcycle with registration No. AAB 662QB had confessed that the motorcycle was stolen from Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan.

He said the suspects and their exhibits would soon be transferred to Idi-Ayunre, where the case had earlier been reported.
