The Police command in Cross River State have arrested two suspected assassins, Thompson Emmanuel Bassey and Prince Out, who attempted to kidnap, Mr. Ani Esin, the State Security Adviser (SSA) South South, to Governor Ben Ayade.
A statement made available to DAILY POST by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Irene Ugbo said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday in Calabar.
“On 24-4-2019, two suspects were arrested by men of the Anti Cultism/Kidnapping squad of the command for attempting to kidnap Hon Ani Esin, State Security Adviser (South South) on 12 March 2019 among other two who eventually had an accident along Akai Effai Road Calabar with his Ford Hilux Jeep which led to the instant death of one of the member-Ndifreke Okon on sighting the Police.
She said investigation was ongoing to unravel the cause of their action and their accomplices brought to book.
Similarly, Irene also said, “Today 24 April at about 12 hours upon information that armed robbers were carrying out operation at 8 Mile, Calabar, a team of operatives from Okpai Omin Division swiftly confronted them and in a bid to evade arrest the suspect attempted to disarm the inspector who led the team and in the process the inspector sustained bullet wound while the suspect was maimed on the leg and a revolver pistol and one live ammunition was recovered in his possession,” she stated.
