The Delta State Police Command has arrested seven suspects over the alleged murder of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum & Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, task force chairman, Emmanuel Akpokevughe, DAILY POST can report.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Mustafa, disclosed this in a chat with our correspondent on Monday.
CP Mustafa said the suspects were being interrogated and investigated, disclosing that,”seven of them are in custody.”
The late Emmanuel Akpokevughe was shot dead three days ago by unknown gunmen along the Sapele/Warri road in Delta State.
The gunmen allegedly shot the NUPENG official severally and ensured he was dead before deserting him in a pool of his blood.
There are insinuations that Akpkevughe’s death may be politically-motivated especially with his refusal to step aside as chairman. Sources also say Akpokevughe may have stepped on many toes as chairman of the task force given the responsibilities of the office he occupied.
