The Benue State Police Command, on Tuesday paraded some suspected robbers, cultists and other criminals in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Omololu S. Bishi, while parading the suspects before the press at the police headquarters, vowed that the command would not leave any stone unturned in its quest to flush out criminal elements from the state.
Among those paraded were suspected armed robbers, cultists, rapists and other criminal elements.
CP Bishi said firearms and other dangerous weapons were also recovered from the suspects.
He said, “You may recall that during my last press release on 4th Feb., 2019, I brought to your notice a case of one Ifeanyi Christopher, who was arrested in connection with theft of a Toyota sienna Bus, which was recovered. Further investigation led to the recovery of one Honda Accord 1999 model from the same suspect.
“09/02/2019 at about 1800hrs some armed robbers operating with a motorcycle behind Bem Hotels, Ankpa Quarters, Makurdi, adopted and conveyed a victim to Quararafa Quarters, Wadata where they raped and robbed the victim of a phone and sum of N2,000 only. During investigation, one Tersoo Joseph alias Adikpo and Demenenege Gabriel Iorwa all “M” of Logo 1 Makurdi were arrested in connection with the case.
“On 09/02/2019 at about 1920hrs some armed robbers operating with a motorcycle along Lobi Quarters Makurdi, attempted to rob a motorcyclist of his motorcycle. The motorcyclist raised alarm and while they were been chased by the police, the suspects escaped abandoning their operational motorcycle and a locally made pistol. Investigation led to the arrested of Hassan Bala, 27 yrs old if No. 38 ADIKPO street, Wadata, Makurdi. Case is still under investigation.
“On 10/02/2019, the “B” Division patrol team while on routine patrol and based on intelligence gathered, arrested one VICTOR Egbodo and Udoh Emmanuel both “M” of Kanshio, Makurdi, with one axe and a knife at a black spot behind kids Authority, New Kanshio Layout, Makurdi, during investigation, suspects confessed being members of System Black Movement (SBM) Confraternity. Suspects will soon be charged to court.
“12/02/2019 at about 1420hrs the following suspects Johnson Ekoja, Emmanuel Ogiri and Anthony Ojela were arrested in connection with a robbery incident that took place at No. 24 Jokpama street Otukpo, on 18/12/2018 at about 0100hrs where the suspects robbed the victim of the sum of #275, 000.00 only one iPad and a Samsung phone. Suspects were arrested with two locally made pistols, one cartilage, one live ammunition, knife and two phones. They have also confessed to the crime. Suspects will soon be charged to court.
“On 13/02/2019 at about 0045hrs. The following suspects who gave their names as Justice Agada, 25yrs, Emmanuel Patrick, 21yrs, Emmanuel Atoju, 19yrs and Stanley Ugochukwu, 20yrs, all from different addresses in Makurdi were arrested by policemen on patrol in their hideout along Onitsha Street Wurukum and recovered from them, two locally fabricated pistols, two live catridges, one knife and Seven wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that, the suspects belong to various cult groups and are responsible for robbing members of the public of their money, phones, handbags and other valuable. Suspects would soon be charged to court.
“On 17/02/2019 at about 0800hrs, one DAVID IORWASE NULE “M” of Kestain Agbahanor street Ugbema, in Buruku LGA was intercepted and arrested by policemen on duty with an English made double barrel gun concealed in a sack.
“Upon interrogation, he could not give any satisfactory account of the firearm in his possession. Investigation is ongoing.
“I want to use this opportunity to warn the general public especially those in possession of prohibited firearms to in their interest, surrender these arms to the nearest police station or face the full wrath of the law when caught.”
He said all the suspects have confessed to the crime and would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
