The Gombe State Police Command has arrested three persons suspected to have conspired, forcefully confined, and tortured two teenage girls wrongly accused of witchcraft.
One of the girls died due to the torture they were subjected to for two weeks.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ahmed Usman, the victims are aged 13 and 9 respectively.
The PPRO said, “They were tortured for two weeks, some liquid substance was rubbed on their body after which a horse whip was used to beat them.
“A screwdriver was also used to inflict injuries on the girls as a result of which the 9-year-old, Abigail Lara died.
“She has since been buried in an unmarked grave.
“The suspects – James Awak, Adamu Zakka and Hannatu Awak, have already been charged to court for committing an offence punishable under Nigerian laws,” the PPRO added.
