Operatives of the Lagos State Police have nabbed the man, Rasak Alabi, who allegedly battered his wife’s niece, Latifat Adeyemi, in Ikorodu area of the State for turning on the air conditioner in their home.
The suspect was said to have smashed the victim’s forehead and face with a spanner, and whipped her with a piece of cable.
Adeyemi’s nose was shattered and her right eye damaged after the beating from her in-law.
The 27-year-old beautician, Adeyemi’s crime was that she switched on an air conditioner in their house in Solebo which her sister’s husband claimed consumes excessive power.
After the news went viral, the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, was said to have ordered the arrest of the suspect, while the Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmus assured that the suspect would apprehended.
After the arrest, Badmus told reporters, “The CP took up the matter and ordered that he should be fished out. He was arrested in his hideout in Ikorodu around 1.30pm.
“He struggled with the officials, but he has been arrested and the case transferred to the command headquarters. He will face charges if found culpable.”
