A 33-year-old man, Monday Nweke, was on Wednesday arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 5-year-old girl at Amuda community of Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was said to have lured the victim to an abandoned jeep in the area and defiled her.

Confirming the arrest, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP George Okafor, said that the matter was reported to the police by the community Youth President, Uchechi Elechi.

Okafor said, “The victim was rushed to the Ezzambgo General hospital, Ohaukwu LGA by sympathisers, as her parents for whatever reasons failed to report the matter to us. This however, didn’t deter us from going after the suspect, as he would not go unpunished for committing this heinous crime.

“We are convinced that God would definitely punish him for wickedly defiling an innocent five-year-old girl.”

While advising parents to always report such matters to the police without fear of molestation, exposure or stigma, as the command would always respond positively to them, the PPRO added, “We also urge the public to always give us relevant information that would assist us nip various forms of crime in the bud.”
