The Police have arrested three of the militants involved in the kidnapping of six pupils from the Igbonla Model College, Epe area of Lagos.
DAILY POST reports that the gunmen had on May 25 abducted about six pupils from the school after gaining entry into the premises around 6am through the creek at the back of the college.
They were said to have broken down the school fence and headed for the boys’ hostel, where they whisked away 10 Senior Secondary School pupils. Four of them escaped.
The kidnappers subsequently demanded N1 billion ransom from their parents.
Two of the parents were asked to pay N400 million each, while another two were told to raise N100m per child.
However, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris deployed Special Intelligence Response Team IRT to ensure the rescue of the school children.
The team, led by ACP Abba Kyari on Tuesday evening arrested three members of the gang squad in Benin, Edo State capital.
Kyari, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Wednesday said three of the kidnappers were arrested in Benin where they had gone to visit one of their members that was injured in a recent gun battle with security agents.
He gave the names of the suspects as Egelu Endurance, 25, otherwise known as Jubby, a native of Abere town in Ovia South L.G.A Edo, Stanley Yomi Irabomini, 25, also known as Powei from Ovia South LGA of Edo State, and Bentel Endurance, 24 also from Ovia South LGA Edo State.
He said, “the suspects confessed to have participated in various kidnappings of prominent personalities in Lagos and Ogun States including the Oniba of Iba, Turkish School children, Isheri landlords and the recent abduction of Epe School Children.
“The suspects claimed they came to Benin to see their injured colleague and relax for a while before going back to the creek.”
He added that serious efforts were in progress to arrest the remaining gang members and rescue the school children.
