Police detectives attached to the Delta State Police Command Asaba have arrested a primary school headmistress, and a teacher in Emu-Unor, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state over the death of a 4-year-old female pupil during school hours on Thursday at the school premises.
It was gathered that the suspects, Mrs. Ada Uwaseye and Mr. Ifeanyi Enebeli were arrested on a petition written to the Police commissioner in the state, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa by the grandmother of the deceased, who alleged that her daughter left home with no sign of illness, and that the victim was allegedly murdered by the suspects.
But Muhammad, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to DAILY POST, said: “the police detectives in their reports suspected a foul play as the girl was alleged to have been hit with hard object on the chest for fighting by the suspects, however, investigation is ongoing while the suspects are detained”.
He said that the corpse of the pupil was however deposited at Central Hospital Mortuary in the community, adding that the police would ensure justice takes its course in the incident. Unconfirmed sources said the suspects allegedly hit the girl on her chest with hard object, and she fell down and died on the spot, even with their efforts to take her to the hospital.
An indigene of the community, Mabel Osakwe, who spoke to DAILY POST, said: “the suspects are notorious for beating pupils in their school, they did a similar one last year, God just saved them that the student was only injured, and was later treated, but this pupil, Favour Igbokwe had exposed them, and they will pay dearly for their sins”.
Speaking to DAILY POST, the grandmother of the victim, Madam Beatrice Osakwe said: “the child is in my care, Favour Igbokwe is her name, the mother is my daughter, she had remarried in Lagos, she wasn’t sick, the suspects killed her, the law will take its course”.
