The Lagos State Police Rapid Response Squad, RRS, has in its fight against crime in the state, arrested five traffic robbers.
DAILY POST learnt that although the alleged ring leader, identified simply as Taiye, managed to escape while snatching a victim, Mrs. Okechukwu’s bag and mobile phone, men of the RRS apprehended other members of the gang.
The hoodlums were identified as Ajala Lateef 16, Raji Kazeem, 19, Ikechukwu Ukueje, 15, Salami Sodiq, 15 and 19-year-old Bashiru Adeyemi.
One of the arrested thieves, Ajala Lateef, admitted this during his confession.
“I know Taiye very well; he sleeps in Oko-Mola at Oshodi under Bridge. I have seen him in different occasions dispossessing passers-by in Oshodi of their bags, phones and other belongings.
“Most times, we pretend as passengers to rob people,” the 16-year-old added.
The commander of the RRS, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olatunji Disu, spoke on the arrest and the team’s commitment to keeping Lagos safe.
“The Police would not leave any stone unturned in fighting crime in the state. We will continue to work round the clock to make Lagos a haven for those with legitimate businesses.”
“The police has been charged by the Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Owoseni, to free the state of all forms of crime,” Disu said, vowing to bring all perpetrators to book.
