The Enugu State Police has arrested members of an armed robbery gang, Ibenyenwa Chukwuemeka, 24, Ugochukwu Esom, 21 and Emenike Ikechukwu, 21 who pose as passengers to snatch commercial motorcycles from bikers in Enugu.
The suspects were arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad attached to the state command.
The spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu while parading the suspects before newsmen said that they conspired and robbed an Okada rider of his motorcycle at gunpoint on 28/8/18 along Four Corner road, having posed as passengers as usual.
He said, “Unknown to the Okada rider, they are armed robbers and after snatching the motorcycle, they escaped to an unknown destination.
‘’The Okada reported the incident at the police station and in no time, the suspects were arrested with the stolen bike.”
One of the suspects, Ikechukwu who claimed to be a father of one, said that his inability to take care of his child made him to venture into crime.
He confessed that he intended to use the snatched motorcycle to start a commercial motorcycle business.
He said, ‘’this is the last operation that I planned to engage in and I intend to use the proceeds to start a business to fend for myself and my family. But now I feel so ashamed of myself”
The Police said they will be arraigned upon conclusion of investigation.
