Police arrest 96 suspected kidnappers in Bauchi [PHOTOS]

The Bauchi State Police Command, Thursday, disclosed that it has rescued over 96 suspected kidnappers in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Halilu A. Gwandu, in a statement said the command rescued 28 hostages.

Gwandu said the command in partnership with the State Government, security agencies, vigilante groups and local hunters carried out series of operations on criminal hideouts and kidnappers den in Dass, Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro and Alkaleri Local Government Areas in the State.

Giving a breakdown of those arrested, Gwandu said 96 suspects including four females, 56 suspected kidnappers, 15 Armed Robbery Suspects, 5 suspected cult related homicide suspects, five cattle rustlers, 14 suspected Indian hemp dealers and one rape suspect were arrested.

He said the suspects specialise in kidnapping/rustling of cattle and extorting money from their victims as ransom in Dass, Alkaleri, Soro, Tafawa Balewa, Toro and Gumau axis of the State.

According to the statement, the police recovered “One (01) AK 47 rifle with breach no 1985PD72 4, three fabricated guns, one single barreled gun, one locally made pistol, one empty AK 47 magazine, one 7.62mm long ammunition, four cartridges, eleven cutlasses and three bows and arrows in Quiver.”

Other items recovered from the hoodlums include, “One Mercedes Benz M320, grey in colour with registration number MSA 01 PD, one Honda Accord 2005 model dark Ash in colour with chassis no 1HGCM568X6A807710, one Toyota Corolla 2002 model light grey in colour, 20 Bajaj Motorcycles and one Yoshi Motorcycle.”
