The Police Command in Kano State, on Friday said it arrested 84 suspected criminals, including three suspected members of Boko Haram across the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, disclosed this to newsmen at Bompai Police Headquarters in Kano, and said that the arrests were made in the last one week.
He said the suspects were apprehended at various criminal criminal hideouts and black spots across the state for suspected offences, ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, membership of unlawful society and car theft.
Iliyasu said that one of the three insurgency suspects was nabbed at a hotel in Sabon Gari, Kano while two were caught within the Metropolis while attempting to regroup.
He stated that five kidnap suspects were arrested and were believed to be those terrorizing people at Falgore forest and other parts of the state.
He added that one armed robbery suspect, Bashir Sani, was also arrested in possession of a single-barrel gun loaded with 15 rounds of cartridges, one locally-made gun, chemical/pepper spray, one jack knife and others weapons.
The commissioner also said that 10 suspected bandits were intercepted at Koki Quarters, Kano, in Toyota Hiace Bus heading to Badawa Quarters.
He said that on June 29, two suspected car thieves were arrested based on information, along Katsina Road, Kano by a team of Operation Puff Adder detectives.
Two Honda Civic cars and a Toyota Highlander Jeep were recovered from them.
Similarly Iliyasu said that 61 suspects were apprehended at various criminal hideouts, with dangerous weapons and intoxicating substances found on them.
He said the nabbed criminals included hard drug dealing suspects, caught with 18 live ammunitions and 16 cartridges, 15 laptops, 26 parcels, 20 wraps and other large quantities of substance believed to be Indian hemp.
He added that 43 knives, 32 clubs (Gora), eight cutlasses and “Gariyo’’, 22 bottles of “suck-and-die’’ and 32 sachets of diazapam tablets were also recovered from them.
Iliyasu also disclosed that 122 suspects arrested across the state two weeks ago had been charged to various courts, adding that all new suspects would also be arraigned after investigation.
”Operation Puff Adder will be sustained throughout the state until all criminal-minded persons repent or leave the state,” he said.
He urged the public to continue to cooperate with the command for a peaceful and crime-free state.
