The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested over 40 robbery suspects in the state within one month.

The suspects who specialised in snatching cars, trucks and motorcycles, were arrested in various towns and cities, including Ago Iwoye, Abeokuta, Ilaro, Ijebu Ode, Odogbolu, and Idi-Iroko.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday said the arrests were a result of the operational order given by the Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, that policemen must reduce crime on highways and in communities in the state.

He said, “The command has so far arrested over 40 suspects within a month for this particular crime.

“The command will continue to tackle it since the anti-crime strategies adopted by the command have paid off,” the PPRO stated, lamenting that car snatching was becoming a norm in the state, hence the clampdown.”

Adejobi recalled that policemen in the Ota Police Division on Saturday arrested three suspects who snatched a motorcycle with number plate, DED 421 UQ.

According to him, “The suspects – Wasiu Akindele, Olumide Taiwo, and Afeez Kolawole were arrested in the Ado Odo/ Ota Local Government Area of the state. “They were arrested immediately they snatched the motorcycle,” he noted.
