The Bayelsa state Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, named Ebemu Monday, for his alleged involvement in the abduction of his in-law, 78-year-old Dennis Ogosi, at Sagbama town in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state.
The whereabouts of Ogosi, who was said to be relaxing in the shop of one of his sons at the riverside settlement, when he was abducted, is still unknown.
Quoting a security source, Vanguard reports that the suspect was arrested at about 9.50pm on Sunday by detectives from the Sagbama Division following a tip off.
The arrested suspect is believed to be the mastermind of the abduction of Ogosi, aged 78, who was reportedly abducted and whisked away about three weeks ago.
Confirming the arrest, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Asinim Butswat, said, “on Sunday, at about 21:50hrs, based on a tip-off, detectives from Sagbama Division, arrested one Ebemu Monday, 25 years, of Akoko-Edo, Edo State, but residing in Sagbama Town.
“He is suspected to be the mastermind of the kidnap of one Dennis Ogosi, 78 years, who was abducted on December 9. The suspect is an In-law to the victim,” Butswat confirmed.
The police image maker, while revealing that the suspect had made useful statements and investigation was ongoing, assured that the command, during the yuletide celebrations, had put in place a vigorous crime scheme to checkmate the activities of criminals and miscreants.
