Police arrest 2 over kidnapped children in FCT

The police command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said it had rescued two children allegedly kidnapped by three suspects in Zuba area of the territory.

The suspects are: Nasiru Mohammed, 20, Sale Bello, 19 and Hassan Audu, 20.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Mr Bala Ciroma, stated this while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that the victims, Seke, 9 and Rejoice Godwin, 7 who are of the same parents, were abducted on March 8 from Yimi village in Zuba and rescued in Lambata in Niger.

The commissioner said that two dane guns were recovered from the suspects at the point of the arrest.

In a related development, Ciroma said that the command arrested five armed robbery suspects who allegedly robbed an apartment at the Sun City Estate in Galadimawa area of Abuja.

The suspects arrested are: Ayuba Isaac,22, Philemon Yohanna,28, Johnson Moses,28, Oduola Dayo, 28, and Paul Philip, 22.

He said that while one of the suspects was arrested by police operatives on duty at Galadimawa Round About, his cohorts were later arrested in their hide-out on March 3.

Ciroma said items recovered from the suspects are: two locally made pistols, nine rounds of live cartridges, one cutter, one iPhone and N91,000.

He said that the command during the period under review also arrested other armed robbery suspects and recovered several arms and ammunition.

The commissioner said that all the suspects would be arraigned in court on conclusion of investigation.

“I want to reassure FCT residents that the command will continue to be proactive in its fight against crime by deploying crime-fighting strategies that will satisfy the security yearning of the residents,“ he said.

He said that the command would deploy adequate personnel since the elections had been concluded, adding that the just-concluded exercise took a lot of manpower usually deployed to curtail crimes within the territory.

“We are happy that the elections conducted in a peaceful atmosphere have come and gone.

“Manpower employed to ensure this success of the election will now be ploughed into crime fighting,“ he said.

He further said that the command would also review its strategies improved visibility, vehicular and foot patrols, intensive raids of criminals hideouts among others.
