Police arrest 113 for cultism, recover eight cars from snatchers in Anambra

The police in Anambra State have arrested 113 suspected members of different secret cults.

The state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, who paraded the suspects before journalists, said they were arrested in different locations in the state.

Ladodo said the arrests were carried out by the Command Special Anti-Cult unit within two weeks of operations.

He said that while 45 of the suspects have been charged to court, 35 were screened out and let off the hook, while 33 others were still being investigated.

A text presented by the police commissioner read in part, “Exhibits recovered from the suspects include one browning and locally made single barrel pistol, 7 live ammunition, axes, daggers, machetes and some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.”

The commissioner also paraded a gang of robbers who specialised in car snatching, from whom a total of eight vehicles were recovered.

He said, “Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti Cult unit went on investigation to Asaba in Delta State and arrested one Chukwuezugo Paul, 42.

“Discreet investigation led to the arrest of his accomplice and gang leader, one Micheal Obinna, aka Mayor.”

Ladodo added that the same syndicate robbed a woman of her Toyota Venza car at gunpoint.

“Exhibits recovered include 7 vehicles comprising of 1 black Toyota Venza, 2 Lexus 350, 1 Toyota Rav 4 Jeep, all Sports Utility Vehicles(SUV) and 3 Toyota Corolla cars.

“Others include: 1 barreta pistol with 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 1 cutlass, 3 iPhones, 1 Samsung phone and another black Lexus 350 car,” he said.
