Four persons have been arraigned at an Ogudu Magistrate Court in Lagos over alleged membership of a secret cult, ‘Eiye’ confraternity.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on November 27 at 10pm at Iyana-Ipaja.
Ihiehie said the suspects, Bayole Adewale, 27; Yinka Adekunle, 20; Lekan Ayodele, 25, ThankGod Ogah, 23 and their accomplices conspired to belong to ‘Eiye’ Confraternity.
According to him, policemen from the anti-cultism unit, Lagos State CID, Panti, Yaba, arrested one of the accused, Adewale, at Babs Hotel, Iyana-Ipaja, and he confessed to membership of the group.
“He also gave the names of the other three accused to the police who arrested them at different locations.
‘’They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and membership of an unlawful society.’’
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted each of the accused N50,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.
Kubeinje ordered that the surety should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The offences contravene Sections 42(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
She adjourned the case until February 11, for mention.
