A move to inaugurate a parallel Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing in Enugu over the weekend, was stopped by the Men of the Nigerian Police.

DailyPost gathered that the action of the police was prompted by a petition from the Ohanaeze National Secretariat in Enugu to the Police, dissociating the pan Igbo socio-cultural organization from the inauguration slated for last Saturday.

Following the petition, men of the Nigerian Police, Ogui Division stormed the venue of the inauguration at Aborigene Hall, Owerri Road Enugu and sealed up the entire premises.

Some policemen were also stationed at strategic locations around the Aborigene Hall to make sure that the inauguration did not hold.

When contacted, the police spokesman in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu said the police took the action to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

“What happened was that one group was at the place holding their inauguration and another group came and another group came and said they were in court with them. In order to stop a scuffle between the two groups, we stopped the event and told them to come and brief us so that we will know the true position”, Amaraizu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said.

Reacting to the development, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Joe Nwaorgu confirmed that the National Secretariat lodged a complaint to the police against the inauguration.

Nwaorgu described the botched inauguration as an act of rascality, even as he warned that nobody can use the name of Ohaaneze anyhow.

He maintained that only Ohanaeze affiliates were entitled to use the name and not any dick and harry.

“It is known to everybody that the brand belongs to Ohanaeze. Nobody can use it anyhow. Such rascality must stop”, the Secretary General said.
