Platini to step down if FIFA presidency bid fails

UEFA president, Michel Platini, has announced that he will step down from the position in 2019, if he does not win the FIFA presidency next year.

Platini was speaking at a news conference in Monaco on Friday, but remained consistent in his bid to succeed Sepp Blatter, in the world football governing body.

But when asked if he would leave UEFA in 2019 if he fails to win the FIFA election on Feb. 26, Platini replied: “Yes. I’m stopping then. That means I may support a limit to the time in office as president.”

He, however, refused to answer further questions about FIFA.

“I know why you [the media] all came and what you are interested in and I apologise for not having answered your questions. This wasn’t the right time or place to talk about that,” he added.

“I have my UEFA blazer and hat on now; this isn’t the place or time to talk about FIFA.”
